Five Years Later, Calif’s Northern District Revisits Class Action Guidelines

Five years after announcing new guidelines for class action settlements, the Northern District of California bench and bar are taking a closer look at what’s working—and what isn’t.

The 2018 guidelines, which are the strictest in the nation, were aimed at providing more transparency about who benefits from class action settlements. The guidelines were central themes at conferences held in San Francisco and Berkeley in the past month, and are slated to come up later this month at the Federal Bar Association Northern District of California Chapter’s Class Action Symposium.
